Advanced Dentistry Tools

DIAGnodent

Sometimes it can be difficult for the dentist to locate and diagnose cavities, especially those that are located in the pits and grooves on the biting surfaces of the back teeth. Traditionally, the dentist has found cavities by visually searching for indications of tooth decay, by means of x-rays, or by using a metal probe to feel for a soft area that may indicate decay. We are happy to announce that we now use the DIAGnodent, a diagnostic tool that helps us locate even the smallest amount of dental decay.

DIAGnodent

Using laser technology, DIAGnodent scans your teeth with harmless pulses of light. A fluorescent light of a different wavelength bounces back to the sensor, when a cavity is present and it is all translated to a digital readout.

This means we are able to detect even very small amounts of decay. When caught early, they are usually easier to repair as well as much less expensive for the patient.

Digital X-Rays

There's another new technology in our office and it's called Digital Radiography. This technology allows doctors to discontinue use of regular x-rays in many cases.

Advantages of Digital X-Rays:

  • It is faster to use and there' no developing time.
  • They are much safer, due to 90% less radiation and no chemical development.
  • The technology is green and does not harm the environment.
  • X-ray images can be viewed instantly.
  • Easily enhanced images improve viewing and use by doctors.
  • Images are stored electronically so they can instantly be e-mailed to specialists and insurance companies.

With our new Digital Radiography, we can provide a quicker safer diagnosis and dental treatment.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera is a tiny video camera that is approximately the size and shape of a dental mirror. This high-tech tool allows us to focus in on one tooth or a small part of the gums and can also provide a full video tour of the entire mouth.

Now, with an intraoral camera, the patient can see exactly what is happening inside the mouth. This allows the patient to be an active partner in their dental treatment, because they see what the doctor sees. Therefore, with a clear understanding of the condition of the teeth and gums in their mouth, a patient is able to make treatment decisions with confidence.
