Let’s “bond”: Tell me your secret wishes for your dream smile

May 7th, 2012

Do you have gaps between your teeth?  Or maybe you have bad stains on your teeth from your diet or a side effect of a medication?  What about a chipped tooth from an accident?  Would you like to fix what you don’t like about your smile but are maybe looking for a simple and affordable solution?

When it comes to cosmetic dentistry today, there are limitless options from crowns to veneers to whitening to braces.  For some, however, these solutions are too costly or time consuming for people who want a quick and effective fix to their smile’s imperfections.  The solution for people looking for a quick, affordable and long lasting cosmetic repair may be bonding!

Dental bonding often provides a simple solution to problems that once would have required the use of extensive techniques such as crowning. It corrects defects through the use of tooth-colored materials known as composite resins.

The process of dental bonding:

  1. A weak acidic solution is applied to the enamel of the tooth being treated. This solution creates a roughened surface, helping the bonding material to adhere.
  2. A liquid bonding material is then applied to the tooth’s roughened surface.
  3. The dentist applies a material called a composite resin to the tooth that is shaped to rebuild or replace the missing part of the tooth.
  4. After being shaped, the resin is hardened and the surface is polished and finished.

Did I mention that these steps are all completed in just one visit to your dentist!?!  No follow up visits are necessary whatsoever!!!  Of course, you’ll still need to visit your dentist every six months for a cleaning and checkup but the bonding procedure itself only requires one visit.  Virtually any other cosmetic treatment, from braces to veneers, requires at least two visits if not multiple visits.

Problems bonding may be able to correct:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Discolored teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Teeth with breaks or cracks
  • Gapping between the teeth

Bonding lasts for years and is far less expensive than many other cosmetic options.  If you have budget or time limitations, you shouldn’t feel that cosmetic dentistry is out of your reach.  The procedure only requires one visit and can revolutionize your smile in a matter of minutes!

Of course, you’ll need to be free of any decay and gum disease before you consider any cosmetic options.  If it’s been longer than six months since your last cleaning, you may want to schedule your cleaning appointment and discuss bonding with your dentist at that time.  If you need to find a new dentist for yourself or your family, you can visit www.SmileMichigan.com to find a member of the Michigan Dental Association in your area.

Remember, the smile you desire can be yours.  Talk with your dentist about your wishes for a more attractive smile today!

Bright Side Dental & the YMCA

April 30th, 2012

This past weekend, Bright Side Dental enjoyed spending time with local families at the Lakeshore family YMCA in St. Clair Shores.

We took part in the “Healthy Kid’s Day” initiative by providing parents with oral health care information and lots of goodies for the kids such as water bottles, stickers, toothbrushes, floss and more!

As part of the YMCA’s commitment to strengthen community by addressing critical gaps in health and education, “Healthy Kid’s Day” was created to encourage kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active this summer.

Some of the fun activities included a bounce house, crafts, a science area where kids could simulate what happens in the stomach when unhealthy foods are eaten, and family ZUMBA sessions throughout the day!

This is an amazing event that more than half-a-million families will take part in this year.

Bright Side Dental will have the grand opening of our new office at 13 Mile Rd. and Harper very soon and since we are new to the area, it was great to get to know some of the local families.

We look forward to working with the YMCA again in the future to help build strong community relationships.
