Dental Bonding

Have you noticed yourself hiding your smile with your hand or avoided smiling completely because of a gap between your teeth, a bad stain or a chipped tooth? Thanks to an increasingly popular and effective dental technique called bonding, these concerns can become a thing of the past.

Bonding can repair fractured teeth

Bonding corrects tooth defects though the use of tooth-colored materials known as composite resins. It often provides a simple solution to problems that once would have required the use of extensive techniques such as crowning. Bonding can be used to treat teeth that are fractured or chipped, too widely spaced, malformed or badly stained.

How is Bonding Done?
First, a weak acidic solution is applied to the enamel of the tooth of teeth being treated. This solution creates a roughened surface, which helps the bonding material to adhere. A liquid bonding material is then applied to the tooth's roughened surface. The dentist next applies a material called a composite resin to the tooth which is shaped to rebuild or replace the missing part of the tooth. After being shaped, the resin is hardened and the surface is polished and finished.
