Dental Bridges

What is a bridge and why would I need one?
Your teeth work together to help you chew, speak, and smile. If you're missing one or more teeth, it is important to your dental health that they be replaced. Teeth were designed to complement each other. When a tooth is lost, the nearby teeth may tilt toward the empty space, or the teeth in the opposite jaw may move up or down toward the space. This places stress on both the teeth and the tissues in your mouth. Also, the gum tissues and the bone that hold teeth in place can break down, increasing your risk of gum disease. A bridge is a restoration that replaces the space where one or more teeth have been lost. Fixed bridges are very stable because they are cemented into place and can only be removed by a dentist.

How is a bridge attached?
A false tooth replaces the lost tooth. This false tooth is attached to the two surrounding teeth. These surrounding teeth are crowned in order to provide support for the bridge. Come in today and let Dr. Gershonowicz and Neme see if a bridge is the answer for your missing teeth!
