Dr. Alvin Daboul has become one of only twelve doctors in the state of Michigan certified to perform this breakthrough procedure. Traditional methods of gum recession treatment often involve painful grafting, removing tissue from one part of the mouth and suturing it to the gums. The Pinhole Surgical Technique involves only a tiny hole made with a pin in the gum tissue. Through this hole, special instruments guided by a certified expert carefully manipulate the gum tissue to bring it down over the teeth. Soft gum tissue easily slides into place, where it will stay put permanently.
Also called the Lunchtime Gumlift™, this minimally invasive technique offers instant results and requires only 24-48 hours of recovery time. No incisions and no sutures means much less pain and swelling. Typically, just two over-the-counter pills are suggested for pain management. Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation provides youthful, natural-looking results that last.
What is gum recession and how is it caused?
Gum recession is the exposure of the roots of teeth due to gum tissue shifting upward. It can be caused by several factors, including aging (hence the phrase “long in the tooth”), periodontal disease, hormonal changes, smoking, piercings of the lip or tongue, and often simply brushing too hard over several years.
Why treat gum recession?
Gum recession is not just a cosmetic issue. For a healthy mouth, you need healthy gums. A receding gum line exposes the tooth’s sensitive root, which can be painful and allows bacteria to build up, eventually breaking down the tooth. The enamel of the tooth’s root is much softer compared to the rest of the tooth, so it decays more easily. This can lead to increased sensitivity to heat, cold, and even sweetness. Due to the gradual nature of gum recession, it often goes unnoticed which can lead to extreme consequences including complete loss of the tooth.
How do I know if my gums are receding?
Gum recession often goes unnoticed despite being a very common issue. You may notice your teeth are looking longer or that they are more sensitive to sweets, heat, and cold. You may feel a notch near the gum line as well.
