Dental Treatment for Patients with Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy is the most common handicapping disorder in the U.S. It is a disorder of movement and posture caused by damage to the brain in early development.

Some oral and dental health concerns are:
- Drooling, eating, drinking, and speaking disorders
- Oral motor dysfunction
- Poor coordination of the tongue which can lead to poor dental alignment and periodontal problems
- Clenching, grinding, and gnashing of the teeth
- Rumination: re-chewing of previously digested food which causes the acidic contents of the stomach to come back up into the mouth where teeth are exposed to the acid. This can lead to tooth decay and loss of teeth.
- Compulsive eating of non-edible substances. This can cause damage to the tooth structure.
Bright Side Dental staff is available to train parents on proper home dental hygiene for patients with Cerebral Palsy and counsel them on the growth and development of their child’s teeth.
